The Supreme Court is scheduled to announce its decision on Arvind Kejriwal’s plea for bail in the Delhi excise policy case on September 13.
The petitions filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal seeking his release from custody in relation to the excise policy case will be addressed by a bench consisting of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan, who had reserved their judgment on September 5.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader has challenged the Delhi High Court’s ruling on August 5, which upheld his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and rejected his bail plea on the grounds that Kejriwal had not approached the trial court first.
During the previous hearing, the court expressed its commitment to framing a judgment that would contribute to the development of criminal law without demoralizing the subordinate judiciary. The Supreme Court’s decision will be carefully considered to ensure the integrity of all judicial institutions, as emphasized by the bench in response to concerns raised by the CBI’s counsel.
Arvind Kejriwal had been in custody since March 21 following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in the same case, with a 21-day interim bail granted by the Supreme Court in May for Lok Sabha elections campaigning.
Additionally, the Supreme Court granted him interim bail in the Enforcement Directorate case on July 12, recognizing his prolonged incarceration, but he remained in custody following his subsequent arrest by the CBI on June 26 in the excise policy matter.
